Watercolor Pencil Tips

Hi Friends!
It's Simple Saturday so I have another tip and/or
technique video for you.
(simply scroll down to the video if you would like)
Today's tutorial includes several tips on how to use
STAMPIN' UP!'S WATERCOLOR PENCILS.
These tips will work for any watercolor pencils, but Stampin' Up! has really great,
highly pigmented pencils that perfectly match the Stampin' Up!
colors.
In this video I demonstrate several ways to apply color to your
watercolor paper within a stamped image.
When watercoloring a stamped image, there are two kinds of in I recommend:
These are both waterproof once dry without having to heat set them.
STāzON JET BLACK INK is a great choice for red rubber stamps whether they be cling mounted
or wood mounted.
STāzON HAS A SPECIAL CLEANING PRODUCT that can only be used on red rubber.
That's not to say that you can't use STāzON INK with Photo polymer stamps, you just can't use the
cleaner because the cleaner will harm the stamps.
Should you use STāzON INK,with your Photo-polymer stamps, be sure to use the
STAMPIN'  MIST along with the STAMPIN' SCRUB directly after stamping to thoroughly
clean the STāzON ink off of your stamp.
Whereas,
MEMENTO TUXEDO BLACK may be cleaned simply by using a SIMPLY SHAMMY,
baby wipe, or of course the STAMPIN'  MIST & STAMPIN' SCRUB.
I always recommend "swatching" out your pencils and activating them with water before you
use them.  By doing this, you will always have a quick reference to the true color of your pencil.
You should also create your swatches on the type of Watercolor Paper you think you will mostly use.
I also recommend always using a manual pencil sharpener to sharpen your pencils because they have a very soft core and an electric sharpen may prove too be aggressive as well as having less control while you are sharpening.
THESE 3 TOOLS WORK WELL WITH STAMPIN' UP!'S WATERCOLOR PENCILS:
1.  AQUA PAINTERS (Which are pens that you fill with water and the water is dispersed though the built-in brush tip at the ends).

2.  BLENDER PENS  ( which Combine the flexibility of watercolors with the convenience of markers. These dual-tipped pens are filled with specialized solution to blend ink easily.)

3. Regular Watercolor Brushes and  water buckets that can be found at any art supply store or online.

Please feel free to take a screen shot to include this photo.  It may help you as a reference in the future.
(Blender Pens are not shown or demonstrated because mine are about 15 years old and they need to be replaced.)

Best Birds Note Card

Hi Friends!

Happy Friday!
For those of you that work weekends...Happy What-ever-your-day-off is!

Today I just made a simple note card and did a little
water coloring.  If you know me, you know that I love to water color!
It's so relaxing and therapeutic for me.

This is how I painted the bird, branch and sky:
I used Stampin' Write Markers for all the ink.
(Scribbled onto a craft sheet and picked up and mixed with an Aqua Painter).
I also used Watercolor Paper.

1.  I stamped the branch and bird in my Stamparatus twice using Black Stazon ink.

2.  I colored the bird first.  I scribbled some of the Blueberry Bushel marker onto a craft sheet.  Using an aqua-painter, I picked up the color and blended it out onto the bird and let it dry.

3.  Meanwhile, I worked on the leaves.  I used Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce. (first I used the Granny Apple Green and blended, let that dry and came back in with the Shaded Spruce.

4.  I went back to the bird with a more intense mix of water and ink.  I started from the edges of his face and blended outward. I then picked up more ink ( very little water mixture this time and painted the tail and feathers.  I then mixed in a little Pool Party around his eye.  Once the feathers were dry I blended in a tiny bit of Highland Heather to act as a highlight.

5.  For his belly, I mixed water and crumb cake, starting with a heavier shade at the bottom and blending upward towards the top of his body.  Using the brush with only water, I blended the remaining crumb cake into the blue.

6.  Once the leaves were dry, (you can tell if watercolor paper is dry if it is no longer cool to the touch). I painted Crumb Cake across the branch.  I then came in with about 3/4 strength Early Espresso for the darkest part of the branch, then blended more Crumb Cake on top.

7.  Once everything was completely dry, I did use my heat tool to help it along, I mixed Pool Party
at just about full strength, and began painting under the branch and continued to blend outward.  As I moved upward, I switched to using one of my regular paint brushes, with lots of water, I created a wash with the remaining pool party ink.  I dabbed off the paint in a couple of places using a paper towel to make the clouds.

8.  I let the entire thing dry in the air before I stamped the sentiment. (which is from the new stamp set:  A Big Thank You ( Available in a Bundle. SAVE 10 %)

To Create the Card:

1.  I cut a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock 5" X 7".  I scored and folded it at 3 1/2".

2.  Using the Hardwood background stamp, I inked it with Early Espresso and stamped off once once scrap paper. I then stamped onto the card.

3.  I sponged the edges with Crumb Cake.

4.  I cut down my watercolor piece to 3 7/8" X 2 5/8".

5. I matted that with a piece of Early Espresso cardstock that measures 4 1/8" X 2 7/8".

6.  I created an envelope using the Envelope Punch Board with Crumb Cake cardstock.  The setting I used was for a 4-Bar or 3 1/2" X 5" note card.  I then sponges the edges up to where the address goes.

Fish Net Shaker Card

Hi Friends!

NEW VIDEO TODAY!

Today's card is a bit different.
It's a shaker card, but it's not made from the traditional

foam tape and window plastic.
Today we're using Tulle and on this particular card,
it resembles fish netting.

I've used the Magical Mermaid Stamp set
and the
Tranquil Textures Sprinkles

The background is sponged. It took a little while to create this card, but I'm pretty happy with the
way it turned out.

Silhouette Sunset: Plastic Wrap Technique

Hello Friends!
Today I have a super fun and simple technique that makes an interesting and lovely card.

I water-colored this using Yellow and Gamboge Brusho pigments.
I then placed a piece of scrunched plastic wrap over the wet paper and let dry over night.
The sunset background is so strikingly real, because as in life, there are shadows and rays of light bouncing off of lots of things.

Crafting on the Go: Punches

Hello Friends!
I hope your're having a good Tuesday!
Today's topic is about is crafting on the go.  Specifically about letting your punches do the work while you are doing something else away from your craft desk.
Plus
Using our Pre-Cut, Scored and Folded Note Cards with matching envelopes (White or Vanilla) makes it even easier!
It's nice to have most of your card components ready to go when you get back to your happy space and only having a little assembling done.
Here I've punched out the vases, flowers and leaves all while sitting on couch in front of the TV.
(Although that doesn't seem like I was busy, I still was spending time with my husband).
Be sure to go to the bottom of this post for your FREE downloadable PDF
for this project.  It contains all measurements, full instructions and products used.

Here is the video:

I'm definitely not a floral designer! I tried to do my best :)
Creating coordinating envelopes is really fun too!
Check out that dimension!
